2017 Trends for Outdoor Weddings

  • DateFebruary 7, 2017

Your special day should reflect your own style, but it can sometimes be helpful to understand the latest trends. That said, trends come and go, so don’t go overboard. Here are some tips for creating a stylish, yet timeless, outdoor event in 2017:

  • According to the wedding website The Knot, in 2017 “decor trends are going au natural.”  This is especially true if you’re having your ceremony or reception outdoors. The Knot suggests incorporating “natural elements like wood and stone into your table settings.” Also, keep in mind that one of the great things about having your wedding or event outdoors is that you are likely already surrounded by the beauty of nature. Depending on the time of year, there might be gorgeous flowers in bloom that will enhance what you bring to the venue, but there might also be lovely greenery or a view of a lake. Ask the venue if they have photos from the time of year that your event will take place so you can plan accordingly.
  • Interestingly, “greenery” (a yellow-green color) is the Pantone color of 2017. And, according to a post on Brides.com, it’s a color that feels “lush, organic, and invigorating.” That sounds like the perfect description of many outdoor wedding and event venues!
  • The Knot also says that couples celebrating outdoors are incorporating lawn games as a way to entertain and break the ice between guests. While you might want to avoid a tackle football game if your event is even somewhat formal, how about a little croquet or lawn darts?
  • There is a growing trend toward being more natural and organic in weddings and events in general, and this seems even more true in outdoor weddings. Being green can include anything from using in-season, locally sourced food to minimizing the carbon footprint of the day. John Michael Exquisite Weddings & Catering, our preferred catering vendor, offers green catering services.)
  • InStyle Magazine reports that other trends include “…incorporating cute farm animals into your wedding (such as bunnies or piglets), and hiring an illustrator to walk around and sketch your guests…” Check with the venue, of course, before arriving with cute farm animals! Ultimately, the most important thing is to make your wedding or event reflective of you –of your aesthetic and your interests, and make it an event to remember without focusing too much on the latest trends.
